Artist
Statement
My influence as an artist is in the energy that flows through earthly dimensions as well as unseen dimensions. The intention is to balance the colour and natural beauty of the world with the multidimensional reality of energy.
My paintings are a juxtaposition of the natural landscape and the memory and emotional response of the energy of the land that I felt at the time. By working from memory, the painting is more an expression of emotion and felt energy than a simple depiction of nature. Recreating this energy in my paintings illuminates the unexpected, which not only adds to the visual interest, but it keeps me wanting to create because no two paintings are alike.
Somewhat ethereal, my work consists of images that surround my home, as well as places I have traveled.
My choice of material is acrylic on canvas. The essential quality of acrylic paint is that it dries so fast, which lends to other means of expression apart from realism.
Artist Bio
Born in 1980, Shannon has had a lifelong interest in art. After graduating high school in 1998, she went onto study Studio Arts at Capilano University, where she graduated with a Studio Arts Diploma in 2002. Over the last 20 years Shannon has been a Teacher and Program Coordinator for the North Vancouver Arts Council, Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna Museums, and the City of Kelowna. Shannon has had her work displayed at a variety of exhibitions over her career and is currently focused on acrylic painting and teaching art classes.
